It has a role as a plant metabolite, a human metabolite, a Daphnia magna metabolite and an algal metabolite. It is a long-chain fatty acid, a straight-chain saturated fatty acid and a saturated fatty acid. It is a conjugate acid of an octadecanoate. It derives from a hydride of an octadecane.
It is widely used in food, rubber, plastics, tires, cosmetics, plastic cold-resistant plasticizers, release agents, stablizers, surfactants, rubbervulcanization accelerators, waterproofing agents, polishing agents, metal soaps, metal mineral suspensions, softeners, pharmaceuticals and othelorganic chemicals.
It can also be used as solvent for oil-soluble piqments, crayon slippery agent, wax paper polishing agent, etc.
